2 San Diego County Parks are Closed this August

Amidst the scorching heat of August, the El Capitan County Preserve in Lakeside and Mt. Gower County Preserve in Ramona have been closed for the safety of visitors and staff. With the expectation of triple-digit temperatures, the county officials have taken this precaution to prevent health risks and related injuries caused by severe weather events. This annual closure allows the Department of Parks and Recreation to conduct essential maintenance, including trail restoration, during the cooler early morning or evening hours. As visitors plan their summer hikes, prioritizing safety is a must. Follow their recommended precautions such as staying hydrated, hiking with others, and being well-prepared with essentials like water, sunscreen, and a fully charged mobile phone. For more information on visiting San Diego County parks, visit the official website.
