Difference Between a Concession and Compensation

Concession
– A financial contribution from a seller to a buyer which is to be applied toward closing costs
• Subject to lender approval when financing is in place
• May include may not be limited to escrow, title, lender, appraisal fees, brokerage compensation, home warranty or repairs

Compensation
– Payment from a principal to a brokerage firm in exchange for professional services rendered
• Seller to seller’s brokerage firm
• Buyer to buyer’s brokerage firm
• Seller to buyer’s brokerage firm
